On the afternoon of October 31, the School of Political Science and Public Administration successfully held the 4th Mock Mayor Competition of Shandong University. Associate Professor Sun Zhuohua from Shandong University School of Law (Weihai), Associate Professor Mao Qingduo from the School of International Affairs and Public Administration in Ocean University of China, Assistant Professor Li Jintao from Institute of Governance in Shandong University and Assistant Researcher Liu Hao were invited to be judges of the competition. Ten teams took part in the competition and demonstrated how they would act as mayors.

The “mayors” dug into complex social problems that needed to be urgently addressed using statistics, news reporting, case analyses, and a combination of images and words. Combining performances and PowerPoint slides together, they presented their personal thoughts and ideas on hot topic issues from four aspects: background, the status quo, causes, and suggestions.

After a fierce battle, the “ever-victory” team of the School of Political Science and Public Administration won the first place in the competition, and the “travelling in the clouds” placed second. The two team will represent Shandong University in the final of the 10th National Mock Mayor Intercollegiate Competition. Meanwhile, three second prizes, five third prizes and individual awards, like the best mayor, the best text, were awarded as part of the competition.
