From January 12 to 13, 2021, the School of Political Science and Public Administration held a meeting on discipline construction and school development. The meeting focused on the implementation of the spirit of the 14th Party Congress of Shandong University, and the plan for school development in the coming year. Xing Zhanjun, Assistant to the President of Shandong University and Dean of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sun Fengshou, Manager of the International Affairs Department, Liu Chuanyong, Dean of the Undergraduate School, Liu Guoliang, Executive Vice Dean of the Postgraduate School, and Li Yan, Vice Manager of Personnel Department were invited to give counseling reports. Cao Xianqiang, Vice President of Shandong University (Qingdao) and Executive Vice Dean of the college chaired the meeting. Dean Daniel A. Bell, Gai Yuqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee in the college, and more than 80 teachers attended the meeting.
The meeting included two parts, thematic report and group discussion. At the beginning of the meeting, Cao Xianqiang made a report on the development of the college’s disciplines in 2020, which introduced the status quo of the college’s disciplines, and put forward goals and ideas for future development in 2021.
Xing Zhanjun introduced the reform and innovation of management services for social science in Shandong University. Sun Fengshou systematically interpreted the school’s internationalization strategy. Liu Chuanyong explained the school’s first-class curriculum construction and practice. Liu Guoliang introduced the reform and innovation of the school’s postgraduate education. And Li Yan presented the school’s personnel policy. The visionary, detailed, and well-directed reports from the five speakers were highly praised by the attendees.
After the thematic report, attending teachers were divided into five groups and then discussed the college’s discipline construction. They reached a consensus on the integration of college’s disciplines, the modernization of college’s majors, and the construction of a scientific research project platform. In the next step, the college will implement a series of measures to strengthen the school and the university, encourage teachers to conduct high-quality research, establish first-class disciplines and courses, and ensure the service for discipline development and scientific research.
