From August 31 to September 1, the school of Political Science and Public Administration successfully carried out the orientation session for the freshmen class of 2019. In this orientation of 120 freshmen and 139 graduate students, among which 113 were enrolled in Qingdao campus (90 postgraduate students and 23 doctoral students) and 26 were enrolled in Jinan campus (6 postgraduate students and 10 doctoral students). 411 students were enrolled in the MPA program including 375 in Jinan and 36 in Qingdao.

In order to ensure the quality of the orientation work, the college established a task force in order to organize the orientation team of teachers and students and define the responsibilities to ensure that the orientation was orderly and safe. During the orientation, professor Zhang Yongbing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Shandong University and the Secretary of the Party Working Committee in Qingdao Campus, professor Han Shenghao, President of the Shandong University (Qingdao), professor Tan Baocai, Vice President of the campus, Song Zuobiao, Director of the Department of Student Affairs, Li Haiyan, Deputy Director of the Department of Student Affairs and other members of university leadership visited and guided the work on the site.

In this orientation, the school combined online Q&A with offline services. With the help of the new media platform, the school carried out admission education work in five sections, including campus introduction, school introduction, campus life, school history and school situation, and the achievements of outstanding alumni. A total of 9 articles captured more than 1,000 readers. We paid close attention to new students' safety education and did a good job in publicizing financial aid to students from vulnerable families. Solid preparation was made for welcoming new students, including producing college publicity boards, banners, promotional folders and designing college uniforms; the "red tile green trees, blue sea and blue sky" was integrated into the design, effectively enhancing students’ recognition of the campus and the School.

In order to successfully complete the orientation work, the college recruited more than 30 volunteers. The orientation of postgraduate and undergraduate freshmen has assigned corresponding volunteers to conduct site guidance, qualification examination, distribution of admission of materials, personal information registration, baggage handling, etc. The staff performed their duties promptly to create a good environment for new students and their parents. During the period, the serious work attitude and enthusiastic service image of the staff were recognized and praised by the new students and their parents when they came to the orientation site.

While the orientation activities were carried out, the School also held a meeting with parents of 2019 undergraduate freshman in order to integrate the new students more into the School of Politics and Public Administration community. School leaders attended and talked about the college development, school history and related circumstances. The school communicated with students and parents continuously throughout these meetings.

The beginning of university life starts with the encouragement of the motto "Governing for the public, performing virtues and honesty", the teachers' cordial greetings and the meticulous help of the volunteers. We wish that the freshmen students take on the role of contemporary college students under the inspiration of the SDU and SPSPA motto in order to grow into responsible youth for this new era.
