On the morning of Sept. 5, School of Political Science and Public Administration welcomed its new freshmen at Huiwen South Building in Qingdao campus. Guo Bangli, Vice Party Secretary, Daniel A. Bell, Dean of the School as well as teachers and students attended to this ceremony, which was presided over by Professor Gai Yuqiang.
Professor Bell warmly welcomed the freshmen, to whom he then introduced both humanist and natural environment of the Qingdao campus. In order not to fail this comfortableness, Prof. Bell hoped that students would cultivate an amiable friendship with their colleagues and professors. Moreover, he made several suggestions to those who are going to embrace their new stage in life. First, he hoped everyone could have independent judgement and attitude, instead of being a person who blindly follows. Next, he looked forward that everyone could become a person able to make a contribution to society with special concern towards the public. At last, he encouraged a diverse development, and improvement in all aspects.
Huang Chunlei, doctoral supervisor of Public Administration department, shared her memory when she was a freshmen 24 years. Then she followed with several advice:
First, be ambitious, to achieve this, one should seek the governmental path for public affairs and relate themselves to the development of the nation and the society. Secondly, stay hungry for knowledge and form a comprehensive way of thinking as to combine new knowledge skillfully. She lastly mentioned the industriousness and merit, as these moral standards have always been the benchmark of a SDU student.
He Yibei, freshmen representative, shared her recent thinking on SDU and SPSPA. She said she was determined to be motivated while keeping along with her initial prospect and concern for the public and the nation at the same time. Fu Qing, as the representative of the master’s class of 2019 having been studying in SDU for the previous four years, believed that it was the life and study here that taught him to be modest and always keep his feet on the ground. That was also the reason why he chose to continue his academic career here. He suggests as a student, that one should not only have clear targets on aspects of life, but dive into his or her true interestes and pursue higher level of self-achievement.
This year, we welcome 120 freshmen, 96 academic master’s students, 411 professional master’s students as well as 33 doctoral candidates in total this year. The ceremony ended up with full praise from both teachers and students. Meanwhile, the sentiment that the inaugural part of their new journey has just been unveiled.
