Introduction:

The Institute of Environmental Politics in Shandong University is an independent research institute established by Shandong University. It is an open research institute that aimed integrates domestic research resources of environmental politics and also the research strength of relevant colleges in Shandong University. 

Researches of this institute mainly focus on environmental politics theory, global environmental governance, environmental and energy policies, and comparative research on international environmental regulations. The institute was founded in 2004 by Professor Huan Qingzhi, and its current director is Professor Liu Changming from the School of Political Science and Public Administration of Shandong University, and its current deputy director is Associate Professor Li Xinlei.

Academic achievements:

The "Translations of Environmental Political Science" and "Reviews of Environmental Politics" published by the Institute of Environmental Politics have become important reference series for domestic (Chinese) scholars studying environmental politics and global environmental governance. 

The fellows of the Institute have published in scholarly journals such as World Economics and Politics, Literature and History, Marxism and Reality, and European Studies. Institute fellows have organised themselves as an academic team in the field of environmental politics and exerted certain academic influence at home and abroad. In recent years, the Institute has undertaken and successfully completed the project of Western Ecological Capitalism and its Critical Research supported by the National Social Science Foundation of China, Study on major domestic and foreign theories of ecological culture from the perspective of green revolution a key project of National Social Science Foundation, and Research on China’s Clean Energy Diplomatic Strategy a project supported by National Social Science Fund for Young Scholars and some other projects.

Profile of the institute:

These programs have improved systematic and comprehensive development of domestic research on environmental politics, and their research results have been widely concerned and affirmed by academic peers. 

The institute regularly holds academic seminars on various topics to promote academic debate, encourage reasoning and endorse community building in the field of study of environmental politics. Furthermore, the Institute of Environmental Politics has held a number of academic conferences with significant influence at home and abroad, such as the Shandong University Environmental Political Development Research Forum, “Green Development and China’s Environmental Governance” conference held in September 2016, the conference on “Energy-Food-Water Safety Nexus and China’s Response under the Vision of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals” jointly organized with Shanghai Institute of International Studies, all of which aimed to achieving an active connection between college academic research and social services as well as contributing to solving major urgent environmental issues.
