The Center for Risk Governance and Emergency Management (CRGEM) at Shandong University has a mission of facilitating the nation’s capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from both natural and human-made disasters. CRGEM is an interdisciplinary and open institute, conducting cutting-edge research, developing risk and emergency management education programs, providing consultation to government agencies, and training practitioners with core faculty members and experts from various schools within and out of the university. Since the founding of the centre in 2015, CRGEM has established extensive connections and collaborations with risk and emergency management research entities globally. 

Research:

CRGEM conducts cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research on risk governance and emergency management. Key areas include societal stability risk evaluation and governance, emergency preparedness and response, risk perception, communication, and assessment, as well as public policy evaluation and social innovation. 

Education:

Developing both undergraduate and graduate curriculums with a concentration of risk governance and emergency management under the umbrella of public administration is one of the primary missions of CRGEM. 

Policy and Consultation:

CRGEM advocates good policies related to risk governance and emergency management. By working closely with relevant stakeholders, especially government agencies, CRGEM provides suggestions and consultations for decision-makers to improve the quality of governance.

Training:

Training is a vital approach to achieve the CRGEM’s mission of serving society. CRGEM provides different types of training to practitioners from all sectors of society, such as industries, nongovernmental organizations, and communities.
