The Research Center of the United Front aim is to conduct painstaking research on issues regarding how to maintain diversity while promoting unity in China, how to ensure the leadership of the Communist party of China while realising extensive people’s democracy and different methods to bind all internal forces to achieve external harmony in large and rapidly developing China. 

Academic activities of Center involves issues that are related to the maintenance of national constitution, improvement of the political system, coordination among various socio-political groups and their relations, resolution of conflicts, consensus building and harmonious development. Such activities would be designed to improve the knowledge of politics, sociology, ethnology, religious studies and other disciplines. The study of (Chinese) United Front is emerging as the scientific and inter-disciplinary subject. The focus on this subject not just has great theoretical and practical significance for the development of the socialist political system and also a political discipline with Chinese characteristics.

Research Direction:

The centre has five research directions that also offer guidance to doctoral and postgraduate students:

1. Theories and policies of the United Front;

2. China's political party system;

3. Building theories and practice of participating parties;

4. Ethnic and religious theories in the united front;

5. Theories of socialist consultative democracy.

History:

In September 2013, a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Shandong University and the Central Institute of Socialism to Co-found ‘Science of the United Front’. In October 2013, the Research Center of the United Front was founded by Shandong University and the Central Institute of Socialism with the purpose of providing institutional support for the development of the discipline, acting as an academic platform for cooperation and exchange between the two sides, and further integrating relevant domestic forces to strengthen scientific research in this area.

Currently, the centre has 29 full-time, and part-time researchers that include one tenured professor, 25 professors and researchers, and three associate professors, 17 among them are doctoral supervisors and 24 master supervisors, among whom 15 people have received their PhDs.
