LECTURE|Expert of World Economic Forum Talks about Globalization 4.0

On May 13th, Danil Kerimi, expert of the World Economic Forum, gave an academic lecture titled “Globalization 4.0” in the north building of Zhensheng Courtyard, Qingdao Campus, at the invitation of the School of Political Science and Public Administration(SPSPA) of Shandong University. Daniel A. Bell, Dean of SPSPA, who also hosted the lecture. Professors and students of the SPSPA attended the lecture.

Danil Kerimi is a Shandong University alumni with a bachelor's degree in law. He first talked about the wonderful five years he studied in the Jinan Campus, praised the construction of Qingdao Campus, and spoke to students with emotion that they were lucky to study at Shandong University.

Danil Kerimi presented the history of World Economic Forum(European Management Forum)and its historical relationship with China’s opening-up policy. He also talked about the forum’s founder Klaus Schwab’s concern over rising powers and growing companies, and introduced the recent work of Mr.Schwab,The Fourth Industrial Revolution, which led to the topic of the fourth industrial revolution. He made a specific analysis over the effects of various factors, such as social mobility, ways of communication, energy, agriculture and industry, and on the first three industrial revolutions which respectively featured by the use of steam power, electric power and Internet technology. He concluded that technological reform profoundly affects every aspect of our society.

Today, the fourth industrial revolution is changing people's lives. Given that its technological breakthroughs in every walk of life have brought unprecedented opportunities and perils to society, Danil Kerimi discussed and predicted the impact of the fourth industry revolution on our future.

He introduced and analyzed key emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, unmanned driving and digital trading, with emphasis on the cross-industry impact of artificial intelligence development, and proposed that the fourth industrial revolution will reform businesses and society at a stunning speed. Moreover, the fourth industrial revolution is accompanied by inevitable unprecedented risks, which will challenge previous concepts on law, the industry and the economy. Danil Kerimi predicted changes on legislation, economy, industry, and unemployment rates in the future on the basis of analytical data over the past few years, and proposed that the fourth industrial revolution will redefine the relationship between individuals, businesses and governments, thus accelerating the pace of Globalization 4.0.

After Mr. Karimi’s lecture, the attendees actively raised questions around its content. Those present at the lecture exchanged ideas on the issue of globalization in depth. International students also participated in the heated discussion. Finally, Dean Bell invited alumni Danil Kerimi to offer suggestions for the development of the college. The lecture ended in a friendly atmosphere.


Danil Kerimi

Danil Kerimi holds a bachelor's degree in law from Shandong University and a master's degree in international studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. In 2011, he obtained an Executive Master’s in Global Leadership from the European Business School, Wharton School, London Business School, China Europe International Business School, and Columbia Business School.He once served in the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the International Organization for Migration, media sector, and private sector. Since 2008, he has been working at the World Economic Forum, leading the World Economic Forum’s engagement with governments and business leaders in Europe and Asia as well as developing the global public sector outreach strategy for cyberspace.
