Overview:
The School of Political Science and Public Administration currently offers five undergraduate majors in political science and administration, international politics, scientific socialism, administrative management, and public affairs management. The school currently has more than 600 undergraduate students and about 20 international students. After years of careful and persistent effort, the school has established a wide array of undergraduate teaching system. At the faculty level, the undergraduate majors are designed to advocate professionalism, teaching management, student training and other aspects. The goal of professional education is to train students to have high-level Marxist theoretical literacy, master basic theories and expertise in international politics, political science, administration, public management, etc., and encourage to work with the party and government organs, enterprises and institutions, and social organisations.

Political science and Administration
In 2001, the School of Political Science and Public Administration was established. After decades of growth, political science and administration majors have become the backbone of the School of Political Science and Public Administration. The major of political science and administration is key disciplines not just to Shandong University and also to Shandong Province, where “School Peak Program” in the first batch received significant attention. After more than ten years of hard work and exploration, the secondary disciplines of political science and administration of Shandong University have gradually consolidated their professional advantages and characteristics.
International politics
Since 2006, the international politics major has become a critical discipline of Shandong University. This major is thought by able teaching and research faculty. In recent years, it has become "Bilingual Excellence Course" for international political majors and the "International Politics + English Double Degree Program". This many ways "building and other successful teaching reforms and practical innovations."
Scientific socialism
Scientific socialism refers to Marxist political science, and it belongs to the category of law and the first-level discipline of Marxism. The effort relies on the promotion of Scientific Socialism which is a national key discipline in China and the key construction discipline of the school's “peak plan”. The Institute of Contemporary Socialism of the School is one of the 100 key research bases of the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education. Nationwide the scientific socialism as an undergraduate major is only set up in Shandong University, and the school has unique advantages and distinct characteristics in training students on domestic politics and Marxist thought in China.
Administrative management
Master of Public Administration (MPA) one of the exceptional programmers that the University offers, which transferred between different schools. The Department of Philosophy first managed the discipline of Administrative Management from 1996 to 1998, and later the School of Management was given the responsibility to undertake this programme. In 2000, the discipline again transferred to the School of Political Science and Public Administration. In 2003, the School approved to award a master's degree in administrative management and since 2004 students started take majors in Master of Public Administration. In 2010, at the School, it decided to start a doctoral degree programme as the first-level discipline in public administration. Since 2012, the School has started to recruit doctoral students in administrative management. Department of Administration of the School provides necessary support for running courses.
Public affairs management.
The sub School of Public Affairs Administration was established in 2005 within the School of Political Science and Public Administration. Recently the undergraduate degree in public affair management started to begin. This major belongs to the first-level discipline of public administration in the management category. The major was established to offer in-depth study on regulations and functions of the Chinese government, reform in the public utility system, transformation of social mechanisms and increasing demands for public services.
